Cloudy Bay Discovery Garden, Chelsea 2013

Our overarching concept for the Cloudy Bay Discovery Garden was  ‘Always precious sometimes scarce’.  The garden offers a space to be lived in and enjoyed, with an emphasis on quality, simplicity, elegance and a proximity to the rhythms and cycles of nature – the very essence of the Cloudy Bay lifestyle. 

Central to this is an intensity of experience and a sense of discovery, reflecting the recurrent themes of the vineyards where the wines are produced.  The design expresses this through the choice of materials, details and finishes, and the use of characterful planting. There is also a focus on water as an increasingly precious resource. 

After the show, the garden became part of The Remix Garden, an innovative grass roots partnership between RHS and the Coin Street Community. Young designers were given the opportunity to respond to the themes and materials of the garden, reassembling its elements to create a temporary community garden on London’s South bank.
