Chilterns Garden

A rare dew pond is the defining element of this garden, and the inspiration for the concept of ‘discovery’ that sits at its heart.
The geometry and forms of the garden span out from the pond and combine natural and built elements. Hedges, shrubs and elegant, free- standing screen walls are used to define space, create privacy and frame glimpsed views. Walls also offer protection for the delicate planting of the gravel garden, forming a simple backdrop which showcases natural forms and shadows. A dry garden habitat provides a sheltered space for dynamic textural plants and bulbs.
Extensive border planting introduces dramatic waves of colour and texture, and driveway planting softens the garden into the setting of nearby Chorleywood Common whilst screening the house from the road.
A series of destination points designed around the path of the sun, create spaces from which the owners can enjoy the dawn, or watch the sun set.

Native and naturalised species have been combined to develop exciting planting combinations from fantastic borders to ecologically-driven wetlands.
A dropped level creates an intimate, enclosed space for a firepit or to watch the setting sun.
