Broadside Garden, Cheshire
Architects: Strom Architects
Broadside is a contemporary new house set in Cheshire’s green belt. The overall design successfully integrates the architecture with the surrounding landscape, and was instrumental in securing planning.
Built forms and planted terraces respond to the natural topography of the site, blurring the boundaries between architecture and landscape to create a seamless experiential place.
A large pool creates a reflective surface and a strong visual relationship with the house’s spectacular east-facing cantilever, along with new habitat for wildlife, bats and birds. A cascade water feature provides sound and movement as it drops down to the lower pool. Waterside planting softens the edges and includes species that provide colour and texture as well as increase biodiversity.
To the south, the dramatic infinity edge of an outdoor swimming pool reflects woodland, meadow and sky. The paved route continues here, ending in a secluded seating area with a fire pit and views back to the house.
