Sacred Grove explores the potential of a spiritual, reflective space within the city to enhance the relationship between man-made and natural environments. A two level design combines cool shade with rain absorbent, sustainable roof planting.
Slender angled poles support a green roof and create a cool, shaded courtyard space below. A central opening in the roof canopy allows a play of light and shadow below, and offers views of the grove planting above. Rainwater further connects the upper and lower levels, from a lively flow to intermittent droplets of water that animate the courtyard and pool.
Planting combines meadow-like underplanting, with luminous flowering species and the delicate hair-like roots of cissus nodosa, asparagus and scented Jasmine which tumble over the edge of the planted roof.
